No, you do not, however If you would like to receive a medicare rebate you will need to see your GP for a referral and if appropriate they will provide you with two things:
1. Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP)
2. A referral letter
You are eligible for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. Each referral can only provide a maximum of 6 sessions and at the end of your 6th session you will need to return to your GP for a review. At this time I will also write to your GP to provide a brief update and recommendation for ongoing care.
This depends on your level of cover. You will need to check with your insurer.
